KAUFLAND, SOFIA / 2020
LONG STORY SHORT
The building of the Central Halls is a cultural monument of national importance and one of the symbols of Sofia. In 2021, 110 years after its establishment, Kaufland Bulgaria presents a project to revive its spirit and functions. In May 2022 the project has been approved by the administrative authorities with a valid construction permit. We played a role in the conceptual phase, contributing to the development and presentation of ideas for the building’s underground level.

DEEP DIVE We received a floor plan idea for the sub-level of the city market hall, featuring commercial, historical, and cultural areas. However, the problem was that the aisles (walkways) weren’t laid out in a circular manner, which we wanted to change immediately, but our request was denied.
We also received 3D visualizations of how the upper floor is going to look, and we need to match that style in our design for the lower level. Our job is to create the right atmosphere and design for this sub-level.

DREAM BIG Matching the 3D visuals with the references was a breeze. Although our initial assignment was to focus on developing the look and feel based on the received floor plan, we took it a step further. We decided to craft both aspects, and the good news is that we accomplished this task with ease and in a timely manner.
Later on we passed all files to the architectural studio that overseeing the project, they took charge of developing similar construction details, taking our work to the next level.
